When did housing design change to eliminate most interior doors, other than on baths and bedrooms?
29.October, 2009
Pretty much about the same time that Central A/C and heating system came into place. In the old days you only heated or cooled the rooms you needed with space heaters or window A/C units. The Central units needed to circulate the air in all the house…so doors that were closed caused problems. Most of this happened in the late 40’s early 50’s.
How much do interior designers get paid in Spain?
29.October, 2009
would you earn more money working as an interior designer in Spain or London? and which city would be the best out of all cities?
Whether you work for yourself or for a company, in Spain you will earn a lot less than anywhere else in the EU.
The quality of life will be better in Spain, but you have to chose between getting the best wages as opposed to living well.
After graduating high school, how do you begin your way to becoming an interior designer?
29.October, 2009
I’m am a junior in high school, and I am searching for the right college. I obviously want to become an interior designer, but I am cluless about how to get there. Can anyone help?! If you are an interior designer, how do you like it? Was it hard to get where you are? I have been told that it is a hard industry to get in to, but I have wanted to be one since I was in elementary school, so I will work hard! =D So can anyone help…??
The University of Nebraska – Lincoln is a great school and is one of only 13 accredited Interior Design programs in the US. I used to live in Lincoln, and it is a very nice town. The college is fabulous. My sister is currently in the Interior Design program. She loves it but says that it is very demanding. It can be tough, but if you are willing to stick with it, then go for it! In the meantime, try to pick up a job in a furniture store, or in retail where you can arrange displays, redo your room, read decorating magazines… develop your creativity! There are quite a few career opportunities including starting your own business, working for someone like Ethan Allen, or a real estate staging company etc. Good luck to you…
Please don’t tear this question up, I am looking for somebody with experience of a house of similar size. Also, I will be painting all of the ceilings. I am really looking for the best estimates from people with experience. Thanks.
I understand it is wall square footage to paint. But, I was wanting a rought estimation for a 1600 square foot house. We will also be painting the ceilings, so that should add quite a bit right there. Thanks.
One 1600 square ft home may have more actual wall space to be painted than another 1600 sq ft home.
However I’m assuming that you realize this.
I’ll answer your question as you wish, however you will not be on the money with your paint supplies, you will either be under or over.
To get the amount of paint that you need to paint the home, you need to go room by room and get your measurements.
Here we go, as you asked:
If the 1600 is the number that you want an answer for , then your square footage of your walls = 12,800.
12,800 / 200 = 64
Add 1600 for celings
You need 72 gallons of paint.
If 1600 is the amount of wall space that needs to be painted, double that for the ceilings = 3200 / 200 = 16 gallons of paint
Looking for contemporary log home interior pics?
28.October, 2009
My husband and I were looking to build a log home, but only if we can have a somewhat modern/contemporary look for the interior. Neither one of us are really into the primitive or Americana decor, but we do like the look of the lighter log home interiors like this one:

Anyone know of any log home interior pictures that have a modern look?

i am interested in becoming an architect. i know what kind of architecture i want to be. but i dont know what its call. i just want to draw a single homes w/ rooms, bathroom, living room and ext from foundation up. what is it call? interior design or professional home design?
That is called an architect.
An interior designer is a licensed professional (as is architect) who is the type of person who helps out on the show trading spaces. They "design interiors." They will usually be knowledgeable in fabric, color, material, and geometric organization.
A professional home designer is usually a person who is not licensed or registered and draws up house plans. They call themself home designer because they are not licensed and not allowed to use architect.
An architect is a registered professional licensed to practice architecture and design buildings (including homes)
Not looking for something that’s going to be an eyesore in a year. Looking for a theme/motif that is peaceful, makes you feel at home, but has a bit of edginess to it.
We’re in the process of buying a new home and I want to get started on the whole theme of our home. Should each room have its own theme. Central theme throughout the home? Feng Shui? HELP?
I’d be careful about "theme-ing" a whole house… if you get tired of it, you’ve got to redecorate everything. That being said, there’s a lot that can be done along the lines of a "nautical" theme. Literally, think lots and lots of storage, like on boats – every square inch has a practical use. Figuratively, there’s tons of directions you could take the design: think beach (from the more woodsy, lakeside and coastal retreats of Maine to fresh, sunny tropical islands), think cottage style (everything from Florida, to Cape Cod, to the more streamlined West Coast style). Don’t forget Mediterranean, Moroccan, Indian…

The design is about me, my personal life, but i don’t know how to put it all together…
How you move through your living space; your kichem layout, bathroom layout. Not clear from your question whether it has to be a single object, or not.
