I want to become an interior designer but I’m not to sure what classes I need to become one. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks!
You go through a dedicated program, and it will tell you exactly what you need to take, there are basics like color theory, CAD computer drafting and basic drafting, and then the studio classes are labeled like Design Studio 1, 2 ,3 ,4 etc. Then there is construction documents, building codes, etc. The school you are at has to have a dedicated major/program for this.
What courses do i need in high school to be a interior designer?
27.January, 2010
I want to be an interior designer when i get out of school. I am currently in grade nine so I am going to high school i want to know what classes i will need to become an interior designer.
Over the course of your high school years (coming from an aspiring artist myself) I suggest you take Beginners Art (even if you’re already good) eventually Woodshop, and an AP Art class. Anything that uses manual dexterity and gets your brain working creatively!
I just wanna know how to practice as a freelance interior designer. Don’t tell me how to be a qualified interior designer. Thanks. ![]()
So who do you think will give you any money to do any work if you have no qualifications?
Is there anyone out there who is an interior designer & an architectural designer?
16.December, 2009
Please tell me everything, how long it took, how hard it was, whether there’s no point in doing both, because being an architectural designer is the same as being an architect and an interior designer, and the best schools that you’ve heard about.
Architects ARE designers…of buildings…not interior, although they often spec interior materials, colors, etc. This is NOT the same as an interior designer, a considerably easier degree to get! Architects have to be building "engineers," know codes, structural materials, strenghts, load bearings, etc. They also must know electircal, plumbing, and HVAC…the whole works.
I have to choose my work experience options by the 15th Dec, and i’m thinking of doing a ‘creative’ placement, as the job I would like to do is something in the Art/Craft/Design Industry. The two placements I have in mind are Graphic Designer Assistant, 2nd= interior designer Assistant. For 3rd, maybe Hairdresser’s Assistant.
Which one would be more enjoying, and helpful for my future career? Pleeease help ![]()
Stick to the Graphic Design or interior design if you’re interested in the creative aspect. Believe me hairdressing is very predictive, because you’re not going to get people everyday demanding weird and unique hairstyles. Most people would want basic and "normal" hairstyles !!!!

What GCSE’s do you need to take to become an interior designer ?
13.November, 2009
Like i saw this programme and i have just picked my gcse’s but becoming an interior designer looks fun ?
What do i need to take or what skills do i need to become one ?
oh dw at all, it really doesnt matter what GCSE’s you do!
Art or graphics or textiles would help, and enable you to do them at A level as well, which would be good, but dont worry if you havent chosen one of them
also- sure, interior design seems fun now, but you will probably change your mind later, so again, dont worry!
How to Compensate Interior Designer and General Contractor?
10.November, 2009
Help!
I am building a home and have an architect/GC. I also want to hire an interior designer. The desinger will obviously get paid for furniture, rugs, window treatments, etc.
The problem is how to pay the designer for fixtures, ligthing, builtins, wall coverings and materials that they design and specify when the GC wants to get paid on those items since they install them.
Argh!
There are many different ways to pay interior designers. You can pay them hourly, a percentage of the overall budget, or by them selling you items at a marked up price. You normally do not have to worry about how you will pay them – they will tell you how they must be compensated.
how much is an interior designer?
05.November, 2009
I live in KY, and am looking for an interior designer. Does anyone know how much they cost?
From $20.00 for a sudent, to $ 800.00 per hour for the popular firms!
Please contact the interior design schools in your area or your local Yellow Pages for the names of interior designers in your area.
You can get free estimates whether you decide to hire a designer or not. Good luck.
Kentucky interior design Schools:
The following Kentucky (KY) schools and colleges offer degree, diploma, and certificate programs in interior design:
The Sullivan University System
Lexington and Louisville, KY
With campuses throughout Kentucky — including Lexington and Louisville — their Interior Design programs provide students a solid foundation through the study of residential design, space planning, and cost estimates, as well as a strong background in computer aided design.
I hope it helps.
