How much do interior design services really cost?
10.November, 2009
Would love to have an interior designer come to the house, but I’m afraid that it would be too much. Do they charge by the hour or a flat rate?
you can get their services virtually free if you use a store like JC Penny’s. If you are buying their products, they will help you decorate.

Interior designers will charge by the hour or by the job, it all depends on what you want. Here’s a link for you to take a look at. It tells you quite a bit out the interior design practices, what to expect, and how much you might intend on spending. Hope this helps.

Shop around, call different decorators/designers.They either charge by the hour, flat rates, and can do no hourly rates. Anyone can afford a decorator or designer. Make sure they are properly trained/licenced.
The rate depend on the area you live in. I live one hour north of NY City and going rate for a consultation is $250 for 2 1/2 hours and $50 for each additional hour.
On the flip side, I do offer ‘no hourly rates’ if my client purchases furnishings directly through me and the design service (which includes floor plans, paint colors etc.) are free. I offer all kinds of furnishings with different styles and pricepoints from 350 different vendors.
Which leads me to purchasing furniture from a furniture store and using their design professionals. That store will try to push all of their products on you. I have had many clients that purchased from major chain furniture stores where they were not happy because the measurements were not properly done and not everything fits in the space correctly or the store is pushing their style on you. The store is just looking to make the sale.
Whom ever you decide to work with, make sure they will work with your style and your budget. Don’t ever let them push you into something that you don’t like.
